Benadryl Pollen Hotspot Map Goes Tits Up

benadryl pollen map tit

Anti-allergy drug Benadryl recently launched a social pollen count app allowing users and other hay fever sufferers to report the pollen hotspots they encountered throughout their day.

The idea to create a crowd sourced pollen map that was updated in real time, sounds in theory to be a very clever idea. There was however a downfall to it.

Some very naughty internet users quickly realised that this map could be used for a game, and not in the helpful and professional way that it was initially intended. Instead of using the pollen indicators to create nice pictures such as flowers and birds, they came up with the following:

There were some even ruder words produced in the northern areas of the country, so if you are easily offended it is best to stay down south!

Benadryl have now taken down their social pollen count page, we can’t begin to imagine why, but in good spirit they did replace it with this nice message:

Even though this social map was a very good idea and we give Benadryl a pat on the back for taking the rude and graphic graffiti on the chin, this map was not very well thought through in regards to how it was accessed and the usability limits. Better crisis management would have prevented more than one person from defacing the map and they could have put limits on the number of reports made.

Sorry Benadryl but for being too trusting in the British public and for a lack of real-time crisis management you win this week’s tasteless social media slurp award.
